NASA leader Raila Odinga met his fellow co-principals on Monday to explain why he excluded them in the talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Sources indicate that Odinga defended his move stating that the deal would benefit his colleagues in the long-run as they seek electoral reforms.
He stated that working with the Head of State was the only way to forge changes between now and 2022.
“He (Raila) felt that talking directly to the President was the most practical thing to do, given the circumstances,” a source was quoted by the Nation.

It is alleged that during the meeting, he made it clear he would not vie in 2022 and was laying a foundation for the other three co-principals who have an eye on State House.
According to the Standard , the NASA leader also stated that he had requested the President to reinstate the security detail of all the NASA principals and MPs and discharge those who had been arraigned following his controversial January 30 oath.
Addressing journalists at Athi River, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi stated that Odinga had briefed them and maintained that they encouraged constructive and structured dialogue to address the causes of national problems.
"We have listened to Raila and he has explained everything he discussed with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"He has answered everything. However, we are still open to dialogue and we will still hold consultations on these weighty issues," Mudavadi stated.

Over the weekend, Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna blamed the unity pact between Kenyatta and Odinga stating that it has weakened Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's political career.
The lawmaker maintained that Raila made a selfish move and accused the Opposition leader of being a political cheat.
"Raila's meeting with Uhuru on Friday was a selfish political game whose main agenda is to finish Kalonzo politically," Nguna stated.
